Food scraps aren’t waste. They are rich in protein, fat, and carbohydrates — the very nutrients chickens need to thrive. Composting has its place, but it also destroys much of this inherent nutritional value.

After more than a decade in the compost industry, including earning a PhD in compost science, I realized composting was not the only solution. My work helping establish Mill.com, using FoodCycler.com devices, and demonstrating nutrition and safety to the FDA showed that the United States was ready for another pathway.

Now, those hardware innovations are helping make FeedScraps possible: a service designed to help Washington families turn food scraps into safe, valuable chicken feed.

My career has focused on creating value where others see waste. FeedScraps stands on the shoulders of everyone who has pushed for circularity in the U.S. and beyond — and we’re proud to help carry that work forward.
